You are what you eat. Did I read that right?

So, what did you do today to take care of your body?

For breakfast my husband cooked egg beaters with spinach and Morning Star Veggie sausage.  It was very good I have to admit.  Was a little nervous about it.  I just found another great meal with a spinach burger from Morning Star.  I will have to check that out too.

For lunch, there is a neat little restaurant near me called “the good bite“.  They are vegetarian and some vegan.  It is just 2 doors away from my Trollbeads Jewelry store in Lake Placid, NY.  It has been opened for about 1 year.  They had Chili with yogart and cornbread.  EXCELLENT.  You need to find them if you visit Lake Placid, NY.  Then, I juiced.  I bet you already knew that.

My juice today, 2 cukes, 10carrots, 10 celery, 1 radish, 1 tomato, 4 apples (No pear…we were out).  Made enough for my husband to have a glass too.  I have lost 20 pounds so far and feel great. This is a life change, not a diet.  It’s all about the choices we make every day.  So, we are what we eat.

Juice for a healthier YOU!

Alarm goes off at 7:30 AM, snooze once…Drink 1 glass of water.  I can smell the coffee…I know, when you juice you are supposed to give up the coffee.  I can not yet.  I have cut the coffee way down, and water it way down.  10 cups of water and 5 scoops of the Java.  I drink 1 cup in the morning and 2 in the evening.  Hubby has 1 in the morning and we both like it weak.

I don’t miss the cereal and milk I have always had for breakfast.  We do make breakfast 1 or 2 mornings a week.  Generally egg beaters, onions and spinach with morning star veggie sausage.  I do not miss the cheese we used to put in the omelettes.  I really thought I would miss cheese.  Of all the foods I no longer eat, I thought I would really crave this the most.  I find that it’s a mind over matter issue.  If you don’t mind…it does not matter.

I have lost between 1.5 and 2 pounds a week.  It is gradual and that works for me.  This is a change I can and will live with.  I am not starving, I walk more and my snacks are veggies more than fruit.  I love fruit and am a dessert person too.  I find that if bananas are going bad, get put into the freezer and taken out when I need a smoothie.  They are perfect.

I timed myself for 1 week from start to finish.  Getting the veggies from the fridge, washing, cutting ends off, pealing cucumbers, juicing, cleaning juicer.  I have it down to 20 minutes.  My daily juice is mostly the same, just a couple of changes if I feel like a Kiwi instead of a pear, more radish.  I need to find a glass container air tight to store the extra juice that does not fit in my 32 oz bottle I bring to the store with me.  I used a bottle from the V8 but find even putting that in the dish washer it does not really come clean.  Dumped that container recently.

What do you use to store your extra juice?

My Veggies that I used today are

6 Carrots, 4 celery, 2 radish, 2 tomatoes and 2 cucumbers, handful of spinach and handful of kale.  I decided to not use fruit today to see if I just like the veggies.  It was really good.  I will put this in my file to keep with the juices I liked.  Some of the Juicing variations I don’t care for, but this was really good.

We had an emergency trip to Grand Rapids, MI and I was without my juice.  I did not like that, but when dining, went with the salads, no dressing, no cheese, no breads or pasta and still was able to eat.  That is amazing.  I was not ready for the restaurant world, but we did fine.  People gave us some strange looks at Cracker Barrel when we told them to keep the biscuits and corn bread…(it is just seems like a waist…lol)

3/4/13 What no cranberries…

Imagine my surprise to open the freezer and “NO CRANBERRIES”.  That changed the breakfast juice to the juice I drink all day.  I just added more veggies so I would have enough for the day.

10 carrots, 10 celery, 2 cucumbers, 2 radishes, 4 apples, 1 pear, 2 tangelos.  I have blueberries I was going to add into this juice, just was not sure if I wanted more fruit.  So I skipped it for today.

I did add a slice of lemon and 1/2 in ginger to my 32oz container.  I love this combo, the ginger and lemon, aide in digestion and add to the flavor.  When my veggies are gone, I add water to the container with the lemon and ginger and I have flavored water without all the added high glucose corn syrup.  No calories in my water.

I drink about 8 8oz cups of water starting with a cup before I get out of bed.  Then a cup before my juice, 32 oz after my juice, another 8oz with dinner, 8oz before bed.  I really notice that my skin is getting smoother.  It’s not oily, just smooth and more clear.  What a great find.  I am looking for different recipes for my day off of work.  Something with Broccoli.  Maybe carrots, apple and broccoli?  Have you done this?

What are you “juicing” today?

March 1, 2013

I started the morning with my Cranberry, grape and pineapple and added an apple.  It was delicious.  Had about 4 oz as my husband decided he wanted to cook breakfast this morning.  I added the apple to this today just to see if the bitterness of the cranberries was better.  Yes it was!   What is your favorite morning juice?

How lucky am I?  Egglands best and egg beaters with sauteed onions.  Turkey bacon and freshly squeezed juice to start my Friday off.

I also juiced the following to bring to my store for the days food.

8 Carrots, 6 celery, 1 pear, 1 tomato, 1 radish, 5 apples, 2 cucumbers – pealed

I peal the cucumber because the skin is waxy.  If you get organic veggies, you don’t have the waxy skin.  I core the apples and pear, wash all the fruit well.

I juiced the above right after the cranberry juice and somehow this juice was sweeter that it usually is.  I had left over and my husband had it for lunch and mentioned it too.  I think some of the fruit from the morning was still in the machine.  I am not complaining, it was great.

Once I finish the juice, I fill the container with water to get the rest of the pulp that may still be inside.

My Cranberry Juice 2/27/13

Cranberries growing

1 Cup whole Cranberries, Fresh or Frozen

1 Cup Fresh Grapes

2 slices of Fresh Pineapples

I juiced the cranberries first, then grapes and pineapple last.

Note to self…Put cranberries in first, then turn on juicer…Some came flying out in pieces.

It made about 8 oz of fresh juice.  It was a bit sour, so next time I will add an apple and see if that makes a difference.  I had 4 oz and have the rest in a mason jar with a lid in the fridge for tomorrow morning.  I try to drink them within 48 hours.

Try to add a veggie or fruit a day and see if you feel better.

If you have suggestions, please add them so everyone can try them.  Have a great day.
