Imagine my surprise to open the freezer and “NO CRANBERRIES”. That changed the breakfast juice to the juice I drink all day. I just added more veggies so I would have enough for the day.
10 carrots, 10 celery, 2 cucumbers, 2 radishes, 4 apples, 1 pear, 2 tangelos. I have blueberries I was going to add into this juice, just was not sure if I wanted more fruit. So I skipped it for today.
I did add a slice of lemon and 1/2 in ginger to my 32oz container. I love this combo, the ginger and lemon, aide in digestion and add to the flavor. When my veggies are gone, I add water to the container with the lemon and ginger and I have flavored water without all the added high glucose corn syrup. No calories in my water.
I drink about 8 8oz cups of water starting with a cup before I get out of bed. Then a cup before my juice, 32 oz after my juice, another 8oz with dinner, 8oz before bed. I really notice that my skin is getting smoother. It’s not oily, just smooth and more clear. What a great find. I am looking for different recipes for my day off of work. Something with Broccoli. Maybe carrots, apple and broccoli? Have you done this?
Pear and Pineapple.
2 slices Pineapple
1 Cup Grapes (red or green) – I used Green today.
1 Lemon (I like the full lemon)
I processed them in the order I typed them.
I also zested the lemon (and froze the zest for later). It seems to juice better and other recipes where I have used lemons, usually say to cut off the outside layer. To freeze the zest – I put it in an ice cube tray with a little water. Then when it was frozen, I put them into a labeled zip lock baggie. This way when I want to add it to the food I am cooking, the little bit of water takes on the flavor of the lemon and does not add them much liquid to the meal. (Do this with fresh herbs too – thus the reason behind the labels on the bag. Once frozen and in the ice, hard to tell what it once was.) Back to the juice.
The benefits for the fruit I chose:
Pears protect the colon, good source of vitamin C.
Pineapple aid in digestion and a good source of Vitamin C, iron and potassium
Grapes are an antioxidant, antiviral and anti cancer.
Lemons are another antioxidant and anti cancer.
Wisk and pour into a glass, and drink. If you don’t want it all, store it in a sealable container. Try to drink it within 24 hours. Mine does not last that long.
1 Cup whole Cranberries, Fresh or Frozen
1 Cup Fresh Grapes
2 slices of Fresh Pineapples
I juiced the cranberries first, then grapes and pineapple last.
Note to self…Put cranberries in first, then turn on juicer…Some came flying out in pieces.
It made about 8 oz of fresh juice. It was a bit sour, so next time I will add an apple and see if that makes a difference. I had 4 oz and have the rest in a mason jar with a lid in the fridge for tomorrow morning. I try to drink them within 48 hours.
Try to add a veggie or fruit a day and see if you feel better.
If you have suggestions, please add them so everyone can try them. Have a great day.
I know there are a lot of blogs out here about being healthy, but this is my decision and my blog. I will try to add daily, what I am doing, what recipes I use and how I feel.
This decision changed around Christmas. A time of year where everyone over eats. Way overeats. Party after party, snack, cookies, pie, turkey, …more food that a person eats in a week and we consume in a day. I felt sick…tired and wanted to change, but did not know exactly how.
I am a fan of the Biggest Loser, I don’t have that much to lose, but the show motivates me to get off my butt and do something. I live in a beautiful area where they are many activities that normal people don’t get to do that close by. My husband was feeling the same way, so that was really helpful. To have a buddy to work with. At home, we have a treadmill, rowing machine, weight machine, work out balls, with weights.
We walk our dog around the 3/4 mile block twice a day. She get a shorter walk at night. I park 1/2 mile from my store in Lake Placid and that gives me another 1 mile to my day.
Today – February 27, 2013 my breakfast juice was
1 cup frozen cranberries, thawed about 15 minutes
1 cup fresh grapes
2 slices of fresh pineapples.
It made almost 8 ounces and it was still a little bitey, but very good. Cranberries are a great food to keep in your regular diet.
For the day I juiced:
8 stalks celery
This made a full V8 container of juice. I bring 32 ounces to the store with me. The rest stays in the sealed container and my husband drinks it for his juice. It is great to save the pulp that comes from the fruits and veggies and use them in meat loaf and sweet breads.
