3/18/2013 New Juice today.

What a great way to start a Monday.  LOTS of juice with fresh fruits and veggies.  I made enough for breakfast and lunch.  10 Carrots, 6 celery, 2 cucumbers, 1 radish, 4 apples, 1 pear, handful of fresh green beans and asparagus.  I really was good and more pulp than I usually get in my juices.  I have never tried to juice green beans or asparagus but it came out fine.  I was going to add another carrot just in case it was a little bitter but did not have to.

I brought my “juicing bible” to the store with me, to pick out a new juice for tomorrow.  I can’t say I am stuck with the same juice everyday because I change out some of the ingredients.  But I really like this one and tend to make it a lot.  Of course, it will have to include the same fruits and veggies my husband just bought so they don’t go bad and I don’t want to go back to the store.  hmm what to do.

Do you have a favorite juice or your goto juice?  Feel free to share.

What exercise have you done today?  At -14 this morning, I walked the dog 3/4 miles around the block and walked my 1/2 mile to the store.  By the time I was walking to the store it was 15 degrees.  Good thing was no wind.  Still have to walk my 1/2 mile back to the car and another 3/4 mile walk with the dog tonight.  May add 20 minutes on the rowing maching before watching the finale for biggest loser.  Don’t miss that.  That show this year has really motivated my.  Last year, not so much with all the fighting and back stabbing.

My Veggies that I used today are

6 Carrots, 4 celery, 2 radish, 2 tomatoes and 2 cucumbers, handful of spinach and handful of kale.  I decided to not use fruit today to see if I just like the veggies.  It was really good.  I will put this in my file to keep with the juices I liked.  Some of the Juicing variations I don’t care for, but this was really good.

We had an emergency trip to Grand Rapids, MI and I was without my juice.  I did not like that, but when dining, went with the salads, no dressing, no cheese, no breads or pasta and still was able to eat.  That is amazing.  I was not ready for the restaurant world, but we did fine.  People gave us some strange looks at Cracker Barrel when we told them to keep the biscuits and corn bread…(it is just seems like a waist…lol)

3/4/13 What no cranberries…

Imagine my surprise to open the freezer and “NO CRANBERRIES”.  That changed the breakfast juice to the juice I drink all day.  I just added more veggies so I would have enough for the day.

10 carrots, 10 celery, 2 cucumbers, 2 radishes, 4 apples, 1 pear, 2 tangelos.  I have blueberries I was going to add into this juice, just was not sure if I wanted more fruit.  So I skipped it for today.

I did add a slice of lemon and 1/2 in ginger to my 32oz container.  I love this combo, the ginger and lemon, aide in digestion and add to the flavor.  When my veggies are gone, I add water to the container with the lemon and ginger and I have flavored water without all the added high glucose corn syrup.  No calories in my water.

I drink about 8 8oz cups of water starting with a cup before I get out of bed.  Then a cup before my juice, 32 oz after my juice, another 8oz with dinner, 8oz before bed.  I really notice that my skin is getting smoother.  It’s not oily, just smooth and more clear.  What a great find.  I am looking for different recipes for my day off of work.  Something with Broccoli.  Maybe carrots, apple and broccoli?  Have you done this?

3/3/13 My Juice today is…

Good morning,

Today I went with my 1/2 cup cranberries, 1 cup green grapes, 1 apple and 1 kiwi.  It was more bitter that I had expected.  I swapped the pinapple out for the kiwi thinking they would be equal.  Nope, they are not.  Even went so far as to reduce the about of cranberries down to 1/2 cup.  I will have to get more pineapple for tomorrows juice.

For my “to Work” juice, I juiced 8 carrots, 6 celery, 2 cukes, 1 radish, 2 mandarin oranges, 4 apples and 1 pear.  Since I juiced this right after the cranberry it was a bit sweeter that normal.  I did not want this sweet, the more fruit you add, the more calories you are consuming.  One lady make this with a few carrots and added more fruit and was wondering why she was not losing weight.  Others answered that she needed to add veggies and reduce the fruits.  I do not really care for carrots, but when juicing them with the celery, cucumber, radish and then the fruits, you don’t taste the carrots at all.

What I wonder about is… how do you know how many calories you are consuming in the juice?  I have juice for breakfast and lunch, fill my juice container with water after I finish, for dinner last night, we had 4 oz tilapia, peas and fresh green beans.  I just would like to know how many calories I am eating.  I lose weight each week.  6 days a week, I walk 1/2 mile to my store and then 1/2 back to the car, walk the dog 3/4 mile at night and whatever I walk around in the store.  I have 1 day off from the store and we usually cross country ski, downhill ski or snowshoe several miles in addition to 3 3/4 mile walks with our Akita.

On bad weather days, we use the treadmill, rowing maching, stationary bikes or something else for our longer work out.  Trying to do this as a life change.  I dislike the word “Diet”.  It reminds me of something that is temporary.  This food change is not temporary.  What are you doing to get healthier.  I would love to know.  Have a good one.

Choose to Juice by MK

December 2012,

I know there are a lot of blogs out here about being healthy, but this is my decision and my blog. I will try to add daily, what I am doing, what recipes I use and how I feel.

This decision changed around Christmas. A time of year where everyone over eats. Way overeats. Party after party, snack, cookies, pie, turkey, …more food that a person eats in a week and we consume in a day. I felt sick…tired and wanted to change, but did not know exactly how.

I am a fan of the Biggest Loser, I don’t have that much to lose, but the show motivates me to get off my butt and do something. I live in a beautiful area where they are many activities that normal people don’t get to do that close by. My husband was feeling the same way, so that was really helpful. To have a buddy to work with. At home, we have a treadmill, rowing machine, weight machine, work out balls, with weights.

We walk our dog around the 3/4 mile block twice a day. She get a shorter walk at night. I park 1/2 mile from my store in Lake Placid and that gives me another 1 mile to my day.

Today – February 27, 2013 my breakfast juice was
1 cup frozen cranberries, thawed about 15 minutes
1 cup fresh grapes
2 slices of fresh pineapples.

It made almost 8 ounces and it was still a little bitey, but very good. Cranberries are a great food to keep in your regular diet.

For the day I juiced:
10 carrots
8 stalks celery
2 radishes
2 cucumbers
1 pear
6 apples
1 tomato

This made a full V8 container of juice. I bring 32 ounces to the store with me. The rest stays in the sealed container and my husband drinks it for his juice.  It is great to save the pulp that comes from the fruits and veggies and use them in meat loaf and sweet breads.
